Empowering the people of Bristol is one of the cornerstones of Bristol Liberal Democrat’s campaign to Scrap the Mayor. We are promising a referendum doing exactly that - allowing people to choose whether they wish to abolish the post.

You can back our campaign by signing the petition below.

Baroness Barbara Janke says, “we need more democracy, not less” and has already launched a petition on the Bristol City Council website which calls upon the Council to run a campaign to ‘Scrap the Mayor’ and give power back to the people.

Bristol Lib Dems believes that by scrapping the mayor we can:

  • end the inaction and indecision running rampant in Bristol City Council
  • end the wasting of taxpayers’ money on loss-making commercial enterprises and pay-offs to council staff
  • stop the prevarication on key issues such as the Clean Air Plan
  • end the centralised and secretive decision making
  • give power back to our communities through the creation of neighbourhood councils.

This petition is our first step in giving power back to the people of Bristol.

Please sign our petition to scrap the mayor below. #scrapthemayor
