Bedminster

Bedminster is a 2 member ward in Bristol South Parliamentary Constituency. The last election in Bedminster was in May 2016 where the candidates were Matt Ellis and Peter Main. The Liberal Democrats received 6.19% of the vote and we want to increase this in the next election. The next election will be in May 2021.

Your Liberal Democrat candidates for May 6th 2021 are Alex Birrell and Fergus Ustianowski.

Lib Dems secure unanimous backing on LGBT+ Mental Health Protection Motion

The Bristol Liberal Democrats Silver Motion on LGBT+ mental health provision was approved unanimously by all councillors at last nights Full Council meeting (6th July). The motion calls for the creation of a strategic plan to improve LGBT+ mental health, as well as greater surveying of the LGBT+ community to understand the issues, and more outreach within the Council and to schools to make sure these groups receive adequate treatment.

Why SEVs should not be banned in Bristol

Currently, there are two sexual entertainment venues (SEVs), commonly known as ‘strip clubs’, in Bristol: Urban Tiger and Central Chambers.

However, a nil cap policy has been proposed, with the effect of banning SEVs in the city. The justification surrounds a theory that SEVs hinder women’s safety in Bristol, contributing to the objectification of women.

No woman should have to feel unsafe on the streets of our city, but blaming women is not the answer.

The Brislington West Greenway

Brislington West Liberal Democrats, Jos Clark and Andrew Varney, have been leading the campaign for the Brislington Greenway, an active travel corridor, community space and haven for wildlife, along the old Brislington Railway Line since 2016. Labour-run Bristol City Council have consistently opposed our campaign and have earmarked this corridor to construct the Callington Road Link instead.
