Following the Prime Minister's intention to delay the meaningful vote in Parliament on the Brexit deal, Bristol West Parliamentary Spokesperson James Cox has joined Liberal Democrat leader Vince Cable in calling for a vote of no confidence in the government.
In the House of Commons, Vince Cable called on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to table a motion of no confidence in the government.
Responding to this, James Cox said:
"The future of Brexit is now in the hands of the Labour Party. They have the power to aid the Conservatives in delivering a bad Brexit deal or joining with us, calling for a People's Vote and campaigning to remain in the EU.
"70% of Labour members want a People's Vote. Every poll suggests that the majority of people now want to remain in the EU, rather than take the Prime Minister's bad deal.
"The Lib Dems have announced that we will vote against the Tories in a vote of no confidence. Jeremy Corbyn has the power now to topple this government, deliver a People's Vote and get an exit from Brexit. He has the power to stop Brexit, but only if he wants to.
"I hope Bristol West's Labour MP and party Whip Thangam Debbonaire will listen to her constituents, listen to her members and join with the Liberal Democrats in getting an exit from Brexit.
